All medications can carry risks of accidental poisonings, and we know that powerful opioid medications can lead to confusion, addictions, overdoses, suicide attempts or death.

The DisposeRx patented medication disposal solution is a small packet containing a simple white powder—the ingredients of which are on the FDA’s list of inactive ingredients for approved oral medications. The small and cost-effective packets are typically dispensed by pharmacists when filling prescriptions; our community partners hand them out at events to engage attendees; and other customers mail them to their patients or members. Patients and/or caregivers can use the product to dispose of pills, tablets, capsules, liquids and powders.

Proper disposal is easy with DisposeRx
The DisposeRx in-home medication solution is simple and easy to use. Simply follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Add Water
Open the medication vial, and add water until vial is about 2/3 full.
Step 2: Add DisposeRx
Empty the DisposeRx powder into the vial and replace the cap.
Step 3: Shake and Toss
Shake the vial for 30 seconds. Within a few seconds of shaking, a gel will start forming, and you’ll notice that the rattling of pills will be less noticeable. Toss the vial into the trash.
Please Note
- The amount of water added to the vial does not have to be exact; the activated DisposeRx gel will still be effective.
- Since pills and tablets can vary in size, DisposeRx was developed based on container size rather than pill count. Large vials may require additional packets.
- We do recommend that the medication vial contain no more than 1/3 of unused medication.
How does DisposeRx work?
When the patented DisposeRx powder is poured into the vial with medication and water, the powder dissolves and the crosslinking polymers are activated. The activate ingredients are rendered unusable and unavailable.
